A new mental health support initiative, Allies, has been launched by Music Minds Matter.

The initiative, which allows different organisations to sign up as “Allies,” hopes to ensure a greater awareness of the mental health support available to those working in the music industry. Music Minds Matter, launched as a subsidiary of Help Musicians in 2022, has already received support for the Allies program from BIMM Music Institute, British Phonographic Industry (BPI), Featured Artist Coalition (FAC), Music Managers Forum (MMF), the Musicians’ Union (MU) and We Are The Unheard.

The Allies initiative will host mental-health-related events throughout the year and create specialist resources for people working within the industry and their networks.

In 2021, the mental health charity Mind shared specialist guides for those working and operating within the electronic music sphere.

Mind found that musicians could be up to three times more likely to suffer from depression than the general public. It has identified insecure income, difficulty in achieving a work/life balance, lack of sleep and access to alcohol and drugs as key factors in reduced wellbeing. Find out more here.
