Ephemeral’s debut on Helena treats us to three deep originals, offset by a characteristically storming XDB remix on the flip.
MOLECULAR and CIRRUS combine gritty textures, half-heard phrases, pulsing bass and cyclical synth and acid lines into the kind of meditative sound experience familiar to fans of Plan B or Underground Quality – but here, and especially on AMMONIA, overlaid by the distinctly dubby feel of drizzly afternoons spent at Ephemeral’s home in the Midlands. XDB, true to form, grabs the latter track and sticks on some serious afterburners, setting controls for a revved-up voyage across the surface of some distant planet.
